Hello, I am Dimitris Psillakis, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, and I am thrilled to talk to you today about the importance of volunteerism and sustainability, two key areas that provide our company with tremendous opportunities to help our planet and our people.
This week is unique for Mercedes-Benz USA as it includes both our National Volunteer Week and Earth Day, which is celebrated on Friday, April 22. To commemorate this distinctive week, our Corporate Social Responsibility team and executive management team have organized several educational and fun-filled events for employees to join, as well as participate in our community giveback efforts.
Some of the fantastic and engaging events we are planning across the nation include assembling safety kits with Safe Kids Worldwide, helping students interact within a simulated economy through volunteering at Junior Achievement BizTown, and reading books to elementary school students, both in-person and virtually.
Simultaneously, we will celebrate Earth Day and collectively raise awareness about the health of the environment with our colleagues across the globe. For Mercedes-Benz Group in particular, Britta Seeger, MBAG Board Member and Head of Global Marketing & Sales, shared a video with employees that mentioned how we can make a great contribution to this vision, encouraging all countries to participate in Earth Day activities.
Britta reminded us of how proud we all are to work for a company with a progressive vision of modern luxury and sustainable mobility. It’s also helpful to be reminded that our focus on sustainability is essential to our customers. We want our customers to know that we strive to be a company that stands for eco-consciousness and harmonizes with their own climate-friendly lifestyles.
Earth Day is an opportunity for us all to reflect on our relationship with our planet, to reconsider our consumption behaviors and lifestyles, because of course, there is no “planet B.”
To celebrate this important day, Mercedes-Benz USA will have a meat-free day at our Home Office cafeteria in Atlanta. Coinciding with our National Volunteer Week efforts, employees across the country were mailed volunteer kits including recycled cotton totes, reusable straws and sprout-plant pencils, small measures that can have a significant impact on our environment.
I, along with your executive management team at Mercedes-Benz USA, are enthusiastic about our sustainability efforts across the country and globally. With support and engagement from our employees, National Volunteer Week and Earth Day will be a memorable one for us, our communities, and our planet!
