The Transportation Education Foundation of Georgia (TEFGA) Career Expo and SkillsUSA Georgia State Competition was held in Atlanta on March 12-14, 2020. TEFGA is dedicated to attracting, training and motivating the next generation of transportation, public safety and logistics professions. SkillsUSA aims to develop personal, workplace and technical skills in students across the nation through region, state and national skills competitions. TEFGA and SkillsUSA collaborated to host a statewide skills expo, bringing together 1,000+ industry leaders and 7,000 students that have won regional competitions throughout Georgia. These events are an excellent opportunity for us to recruit young talent interested in the automotive industry and convince them to consider a career with Mercedes-Benz.
Day one of the Career Expo welcomed middle school students to the Georgia World Congress Center, highlighting numerous trades, from automotive, aviation, carpentry, electrical, welding, and many more. Unfortunately, the event was cut short due to the threat of Coronavirus: COVID 19. The final two days of the event were cancelled, including the SkillsUSA competition. We are disappointed these students did not have the opportunity to compete, but the health and safety of the attendees and exhibitors was this highest priority.
Earlier in March our Robbinsville LPC hosted SkillsUSA NJ narrowing the technical contestants in the state. Following state competitions, students will travel to Lexington, Kentucky to showcase their skills and compete at the national level. Next year, the national competition will take place just a few miles south of 1MB in Atlanta. This will provide even more brand exposure to budding young technicians across the nation. As a large local supporter, we will be heavily involved in the planning and execution of the 2021 National Competition and plan to share these event highlights next summer.
